Meet the RISE Team

Mela Swayze

Founder of RISE for Early Learning, Mela is an educator, facilitator, and consultant specializing in equity-driven leadership, early learning, and systems change. Mela holds a PhD in Education from York University.

Shiva Mazrouei

Shiva is a dynamic consultant, researcher and educator. As a curriculum developer and facilitator with RISE, she supports the design and delivery of professional learning and needs assessments. She is completing her PhD at McMaster University.

Celeste Licorish

Celeste is a seasoned consultant, speaker, and coach based in Hamilton. She is a lead facilitator with RISE and delivers specialized training on Supporting Black Communities in the Early Years. She is completing her M.Ed at OISE.

Drawing on stories from the field, research, and practical experience, RISE & SHINE for Equity in Early Learning explores how educators and leaders can advance equity through relationships, responsive practice, and systems change.
